Portwrinkle Storm

Portwrinkle is between Tregantle beach and Downderry in the middle of Whitsand bay which runs as far as the fishing port of Looe on the South Coast of East Cornwall. When the surf everywhere else is blown out, Portwrinkle can still hold a good surfable wave, but it is a dangerous spot as there are jagged rock beneath the surface from mid tide to high tide. There are a hard core of advanced surfers who take on the waves here when the swell is right. On this particular day, it was too messy. The painting is from above the small harbour at Portwrinkle just a couple of hundred yards from the beach looking towards Bass Rock and Downderry.
